Mazda RX-7 confirmed for 2017

While the Mazda RX-8 no longer exists, the Hiroshima manufacturer did not abandon the rotary engine whose next version looks less complex, lighter and especially more economical.

As proof, the confirmation of the release in 2017 of a new Mazda RX-7 that will be developed from the MX-5 roadster in 2013.

Remember that a Mazda RX-7 has already been marketed between 1978 and 2002.

The output of the future RX-7, will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Mazda rotary engine. The first rotary engine model was that of the 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport.

The 2017 Mazda RX-7

We’re talking about a sports model much less expansive than was the RX-8 coupe, which will target the Scion FR-S, Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ market.

A rotary engine sports coupe which:

  • the power should be around 200 horsepower;
  • the price could be around $ 30,000.

Before being withdrawn from the market in 2011, the Mazda RX-8 displayed a starting price of $ 41,000.
