The 2013 Ford Explorer

The Explorer has long been one of Ford’s most popular offerings.  While its size was once a fairly distinguishing characteristic, the trend of creating oversized SUVs has put the Explorer somewhere in the middle when compared with larger varieties such as the Excursion or Suburban.  This hasn’t hurt its popularity, however, as there are plenty of car buyers who have no real need for a vehicle of such immense size.  The Explorer has always been considered a trustworthy vehicle which is popular among people with families and those that may occasionally head into some tough driving conditions.  Ford has kept this in mind and the new 2013 Explorer reflects this.

The Explorer has actually been around for a while and has become a fairly recognizable vehicle, even in crowded parking lots.  Despite its name, modern versions of this SUV aren’t particularly known for their incredible strength or off road capabilities.  In fact, some of the complaints surrounding previous models have been that the Explorer is a bit on the slow side when compared with other vehicles in its class.  The 2013 Ford Explorer may not be destined for as much trail blazing as its name implies but it is still the ideal vehicle for the right buyer.

The Explorer 2013 model is Ford’s attempt to update this vehicle and address some of the complaints that previous buyers may have had.  While none of these complaints have been very serious, the SUV market is extremely competitive these days and Ford is attempting to stay on top of it.  The seriousness that Ford has approached this redesign with is evident in the fact that they have produced a Police Interceptor model of the new Explorer which is sure to have all of the speed and power that a job like this will necessitate.

The Ford Explorer 2013 models will receive a bit of a design upgrade when compared with previous models.  The new looks has been created in an effort to help the Explorer compete with other SUVs in the market.  Most modern SUVs are considered to be on the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to luxury and a few of them are simply luxury vehicles no matter how you look at it.  The look of the Explorer is quite nice and offers a few stylistic improvements over the older models.  While being slightly more angular than older models, the creases, sculpting and details on the exterior do a fine job of creating an attractive and modern ride.

The interior of the Explorer 2013 model should continue the tradition of a spacious and comfortable interior.  It’s a safe bet that many Explorer owners spend a good amount of time inside of their vehicles and Ford has attempted to make the new model as comfortable as possible.  In addition to the design of the interior, owners will also be able to take advantage of the new safety features being installed in the new model.  Ford has created a new lane-keeping technology which will help drivers stay alert and in their lane, thus reducing the risk attributed to fatigued driving.  Ford is also including a “Do not disturb” feature which will block incoming texts and phone calls when a young driver is at the wheel.

The specs on the 2013 Explorer should also get an upgrade.  This is evident in the Police Interceptor model which we know can reach good speeds.  We expect the new Explorer to come with an option of a 3.5 liter V6 engine with 280 foot pounds of torque and 300 horsepower or an EcoBoost 2 liter inline 4 with 275 foot pounds of torque and about 245 horsepower.  The decrease in power found in the EcoBoost model may turn a few people off but it offers more fuel efficiency and increased gas mileage.  The horsepower found in the V6 model is actually quite impressive and is higher than most of the other cars slated for the 2013 lineup regardless of the company.  While the overall weight of the Explorer may slow it down a bit, the powerful engine should more than make up for it and should offer buyers all of the power they want.

The Explorer has been one of Ford’s most popular vehicles and helped pave the way for the popularity of the SUV.  With its reliable engineering and comfortable design, the Explorer is the perfect vehicle for anyone who spends a lot of time driving and relies on the ability to get where they’re going.  While Explorers may not be going on many safaris, they have proven themselves trustworthy in conditions that would have stopped a lesser vehicle.  The new 2013 Ford Explorer promises an updated design, plenty of new technology and enough power to remedy the complaints fans have had with previous models.  The new Explorer is an attractive ride and should do well, even in the competitive SUV market.
