The 2013 Mitsubishi Evo XI

Mitsubishi is a car manufacturer which has its eyes on the future.  Long known for producing a line of attractive, and often sporty, vehicles, they are now turning their focus to meeting modern emissions standards and “going green”.  While this generally means a reduction in both style and power for other companies, Mitsubishi is trying to keep everything that fans loved about the Lancer and turn it into an eco friendly hybrid.  The last Evo was possibly one of the best cars that this company has ever offered and the 2013 Mitsubishi Evo XI looks ready to continue this trend.

Much of the information surrounding the Mitsubishi Evo XI is still being kept a closely guarded secret but we have seen some of the concepts and heard a few different rumors about its specs.  The overall concept behind the new Evo is to blend a reliable sporty car with the benefits of a hybrid without losing anything in the translation.  Some car fans have been a bit worried after hearing that the manufacturer wanted to create a hybrid version of one of their best cars.  Hybrids are known for being eco-conscious and fuel efficient but aren’t exactly known for their speed or power.  Mitsubishi is looking to change that with the new Evo XI.

The exterior of the Mitsubishi Evo is very sexy.  While most of what we have seen has been concept designs, the overall look is very attractive.  The concepts are quite nice to look at and really give the car a feeling of speed and power.  It’s obvious that the production vehicle won’t look quite as stylish as the concept model but we can trust that the final version will still be a good looking ride.  When we look at past models we can see a bit of a relation between them and even the concept model.  The shape seems to be roughly similar with some added design work here and there.  We’re also expecting a nice set of lights, both in the front and tail, and a nice open grill.

Much of the information regarding the interior of the Mitsubishi Evo XI has yet to be revealed but we can glean some small bit of information from previous cars from this company.  We are fairly certain that the interior will sport some very nice materials and will be designed in a sleek yet sporty fashion.  This may make it seem less like an elegant luxury car and a bit more like a sporty little racer but we expect there to be some compromise between the two concepts.  The dash will likely be well sculpted and will include plenty of clearly visible displays and readouts not available in much older cars.  As cars are sold on their technology as much as anything else, auto fans can expect plenty of technological integration in the new Evo.

One of the biggest challenges that the Mitsubishi designers are faced with is how to turn a very popular car into a hybrid without losing any of its power or driving pleasure.  Past models, particularly the Lancer Evolution, was one of the most popular models to come out of this company.  Part of the reason for this was that, in an era of decreased power, the Lancer had plenty of energy.  Some fans were becoming rather skeptical about the ability to add a hybrid engine into a car like this.  One of the biggest problems that hybrids face is the need to carry such heavy batteries.  This causes certain problems like an increase in overall weight, a decrease in storage space and a sometimes significant decrease in speed.

Mitsubishi, however, is quite confident in their ability to produce a hybrid model of the Evo XI without sacrificing any element that made the Lancer so popular.  It seems they have decided to give the Evo a hybrid diesel engine that runs on lightweight lithium ion batteries.  This will allow it to take advantage of the power afforded to a diesel engine while cruising on the batteries when the need arises.  The MistubishiEvo looks like it will be a good way to enjoy the benefits of this type of car while taking advantage of the fuel efficiency and the reduced emissions of a hybrid.

The Mitsubishi Evo XI is one of the most anticipated vehicles of the next few years.  Coming from a long line of popular cars, including the Lancer as one of the most popular, the Evo has a bit of a heavy torch to carry.  Deciding to create a hybrid car, Mitsubishi is showing us that they have their finger on the pulse of the modern car market and are doing what they can to help reduce our ecological footprint.  We trust that Mitsubishi knows what they’re doing and that the Evo XI is going to be a very nice car when it finally debuts.
